American-born singer Tina Turner, a legend, has passed away.

Her spokeswoman announced in a statement that the 83-year-old rock icon, who was also one of the most charismatic performers, had passed away:

The 'Queen of Rock'n Roll,' Tina Turner, passed away peacefully today at the age of 83 in her home in Kusnacht, Switzerland, close to Zurich, following a protracted illness. "With her, the world loses a legend of music and a role model."

The American vocalist, famed for her stage appearance and a string of singles like The Best, Proud Mary, Private Dancer, and What's Love Got to Do With It, was one of the most well-liked female rock singers.
